Argent is Committed to Helping & Educating Future Engineers!
In January Argent was contacted by a Bosch engineer in South Carolina for a wire strap application. It wasn’t the usual customer request for our components on an automotive vehicle. The Bosch engineer is a Team Leader (Coach) for FIRST Robotics Team - a group of high school engineering students in Charleston, South Carolina. (FIRST stands for FOR INSPIRATION AND RECOGNITION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY). The team is one of many who build robots and compete on a national scale. According to Bosch the Michigan teams are quite elite (328 teams in our great state) and have the support and sponsorship of the Big 3. The list includes teams from Brighton, Detroit, Troy, Dearborn, Canton and Milford, so it’s quite possible some of you may know some of the students involved in this competition.
We created gift bags for each of the students (17) which included Argent WirestrapsTM, pens & cozies, shipped them off to Bosch, and asked that the team to keep us informed of their progress. The team was thrilled with the gift bags! The Bosch team competed in February in Myrtle Beach, then in Knoxville in March. Each team was given two totes of which included motor bearings, pneumatic tubing and Argent “WirestrapTM”. The WirestrapsTM were used for routing the pneumatic tubing.
The Knoxville competition was fun for the team – at one point they were ranked #1 out of 50 teams. Overall the Bosch team ended in 4th place and won the “Quality Award”. The team believes our WirestrapTM may have been the factor!
It was fun for Argent to provide our parts to bright engineering students who may be our ‘future customers’ in the years to come.
